A Cosy Autumn Evening

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times - I love this time of year.

Leaves of golden, crispy browns are falling from the trees. Lights from buildings twinkle as the dark creeps in earlier and earlier. And a snuggle by the fire is always at the top of the cards.

Yup, Autumn has arrived with a bang and with my toasty socks, mug of hot cocoa and cinnamon scented Yankee candle, I'm more prepared than ever.

Don't get me wrong though - in true British form, you will undoubtedly see me complain about the weather, because, well, that's what us Brits do best! The rain looks all so pretty in droplets on your windowsill, but if you have to venture out in it, then it's not so Instagram-worthy.

I thought I'd have a little round-up of some of my favourite things about Autumn so that you can get yourself into the spirit of things. If you're reading this on a tablet as you stand in the rain, then I hope it gives you a little comfort. If you're inside, then what are you waiting for? Get those fluffy socks on and pour yourself a hot drink!

1. Bonfire night.
In my hometown, we would always have a huge bonfire party where all the locals would gather to drink mulled wine, eat mushy peas, and spell out our names with sparklers. Just thinking about it makes me feel nostalgic for the smells, the sounds, and the warmth of the fire. Find out if there's a local bonfire near to you, or even host one yourself! However, it goes without saying to be extremely careful and make sure your pets are comforted when the fireworks start!

2. Shorter days.
This may seem a bit of a boring one, but I actually kind of like that it gets darker earlier. Especially living where I do: the lights just bounce right off the water, making things look truly magical. It's easy to get caught up in the misery of the dark nights (and the dark mornings which I know are just awful), but I dare you to take a stroll around your neighbourhood, or put up some fairy lights and candles in your bedroom and see how beautiful it makes things look!

3. The food.
Don't you just love a winter warmer? Since the colder evenings have set in, I've found myself making feasts of stew, bourguignon and pie. Teamed with honey glazed roasted vegetables (parsnip and carrots are my absolute favourites!) and some creamy, cheesy mashed potatoes, and you've got yourself the ultimate autumn dish!

4. Staying in.
I'm a home girl at heart. Don't get me wrong, I love going out for dinner and exploring as much as the next gal, but I also love having an excuse to stay in, crack open a bottle of mulled wine and chill out by the fire. Bliss.

5. The fashion.
What would a fashion blog be without a mention of the good stuff, eh?! I started to get a little bit bored of Summer fashion - everything got a bit same-y. This season is all about the textures: leather, faux furs, quilted, mohair... it's all so exciting! I'm sure you can tell from my lookbook feature that I've been overindulging in clothes, but this is the first A/W season in a while that I've been ridiculously excited about the fashion!

What are your favourite things about Autumn?
